2024

• On Wednesday, October 9, a group of biologists from Lund University visited Pioneer Centre. They presented a selection of their ongoing research on several topics and study systems, including quantitative analysis of phenotypes, metabolic allometry, modularity and a presentation of their 3D laboratory.
• Sergei Tarasov, curator and Associate Professor at the Finnish Museum of Natural History, gave a presentation during the bi-weekly CCEM meeting on 11 September 2024. Talk title: Leveraging Markov Model Lumpability and Ontologies to Enhance Phylogenetics and Biosystematics
• Michael Lind Severinsen, PhD Fellow at Globe, Section for Geogenetics, UCPH, participated in XXVII International Congress of Entomology “New Discoveries Through Consilience” which took place on 25-30 August in Kyoto, Japan. Talk title: From Pixels to Patterns: Unravelling the Evolution of Butterfly Wings Using Upwards LDDMM
• Gefan Yang gives a presentation on 20 August during the Symposium on Machine Learning and Ancient and Environmental DNA Analyses. Talk title: From Shapes to Species: How Deep Learning Reveals Evolutionary Morphological Secrets
• Christy Hipsley and Stefan Sommer organise a specialised PhD course Geometric Morphometrics in R for the PhD School at Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen on 7-12 August 2024

• During the bi-weekly CCEM meeting on 31 January, the group of Staffan Persson (head of the Copenhagen Plant Science Center) will visit, to discuss plant cell morphometry and possible synergies to the CCEM project, including presentation by Dr. Zoran Nikoloski (bio-informatics dep.,uni. of Potsdam)
• On 18 January 2024, Stefan Sommer gave a talk in the 2nd workshop on Mathematics of Small Data Analysis: The Diffusion Mean of Geometric Data

• Christy Hipsley gave a keynote talk on Sep 20th 2023: Visualising evolution in 4D: prospects and challenges for large-scale CT datasets. The keynote was given during the International Forum for Computer Vision in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, hosted by Lund University from Sep 18th – 22nd 2023.

  Sub-Riemannian manifolds are manifolds were we only have an inner product on a subbundle of the tangent bundle. There have been several recent advances regarding local geometric structures on such manifolds using representation theory and Cartan geometry.
